How to use Roomster ?

1) Easy sign up & log in

Sign up and log in using FB, Google plus & Twitter. Skip all the data fields and get going fast. These types of social sign ups & log-ins require you have an account on any of these three social networks. The additional benefits  are your photos, sex, age and links to your social network gets added. This is the first step to an authentic account on Roomster.

2) Login often. Be a go getter.

Roomster always has the freshest content. We disable inactive profiles. If you are actively looking do not fall behind. Active members login and check their messages, update their profiles and check Megaphones.

When you login, we bump your listing to the top of search results for a limited time. Login often and you will be rewarded.

3) Your Profile

Creating and managing a profile on Roomster gives fellow members personal insights into all the listings you post & makes you a more interesting and a verifiable person.

Whether looking for or posting a place, members can see you the individual. Tell the community about yourself. Share your stories. Add photos of yourself, upload a video. Choose & share your hobbies, favorite music, tv shows and books and most important, add links to your social network pages & a phone number. We call this Roomster Social Connect.

Having an updated profile on Roomster allows connections to happen easily and when you want. Update your Profile.

4) Completed profiles & listings get rewarded with more page views.

Roomster members are different from the people who post on message boards like Craigslist. Roomster members are authentic and expect others to be authentic as well.

We encourage this by making sure that Roomster profiles and the listings on the site are complete, accurate, updated and yes….authentic.

Adding in all the criteria that we ask you for is important and we reward our members who have completed their profiles with more page views by bumping the up to the top of search results.

Let’s check your profile first.

1.Let’s make sure that all your contact & personal data is all accurate.

Make sure all your Roomster Social Connections are accurate and working. Test them! If they do not work, people can not verify who you are or contact you! update main personal

2.Say something about yourself..not what you’re looking for but who you are! update about

3.Add photos of yourself. People like to know who they are living with. Start your future relationship the right way. Be proud of who you are and smile! Add a bunch of photos of you…and only you! We will remove photos like cartoons, celebrities and stock images. update your photos.

5) Listing a room for rent.

It’s completely free to create a listing on Roomster. Click the “+post new listing” button on the “I’m offering a room ” section of the edit listings page This will take you to a form where you can enter initial details. You can always change any of these details later. Your listing won’t go live until you’re completely ready, so go ahead and click ‘save changes’ to keep entering information

It is up to you to decide how much you charge. To get an idea of what you can charge, we recommend searching for similar listings in your neighborhood to learn more about local pricing. You can set different prices for nightly, weekly, and monthly stays. To do this,  ‘Your Listings’

A great title and description of your place are essential. They serve as an advertisement for your space! Make sure your title is descriptive and clearly written. Stay concise with your title: people will lose interest after 10 words or so. Misspellings and grammatical errors are also turn-offs. Descriptions, on the other hand, should be very detailed. They should give your prospective guests a great sense of what to expect.

Use the section to lay out expectations for guests.Do you allow visitors? This is the place to spell out guidelines so that your guests can understand what is expected of them before booking.

Great photographs are the best way for prospective guests to discover your listing. Roomster lets you upload many photographs of your space. The more photographs, the better: photographs are crucial for guests in deciding whether they want to live with you, So make sure your photographs are well lit, in focus, and representative of your space. Your profile is the place where guests get to know you. Upload a picture of yourself (clear, smiling head shots work best) that shows off your personality. It’s great to include other co-hosts, but stay away from photographs that may be confusing or intimidating . Avoid pics of just pets, random events and drawings. Fill out a detailed profile of yourself, including your philosophy towards hosting, so that guests learn more about you.

6) Be smart. Be safe.

The goal at Roomster has always been the same. Create the best, safest and most trustworthy site to find a home or someone to live with. Unlike message boards that have little to no information on the person posting, and no way of verifying their identity. Roomster keeps everyone safe by asking for detailed information, adds ID verification systems like Roomster Social Connect , Credit Checks  and Back Ground Checks.

When browsing through listings look for completeness of the member profiles, listings and social connections. A verified member is one that has links to their off site social networking pages, such as Facebook, Linkedin & Twitter. Phone numbers are a great compliment. If you have not added these in, do so.

When reading someone’s profile & listing click through to their Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter page. See who they are, who their friends are (you may know some) what they have to say, or where they work. This gives everyone peace of mind. Once you have done this, you can chat on the phone, text, or meet up with them in person.

8) Upgrade your account

We offer a free version of Roomster to anyone who wants to try it. This version allows users to do everything on the site except access the Roomster mailbox and Roomster Social Connect features. We have this free version so that anyone can create a profile, get to know the site and test drive all its features.

As a free member you can get contacted by all upgraded members via your offsite email account or any of the social connections you have added. Your sent emails will also be delivered to all upgraded members so it really is a great way to get started as a Roomster community member.

As a free member you can either wait to be contacted by upgraded members, but have all your messages delivered to those members or you can upgrade your account and contact anyone on the site, either through the onsite mailbox, external email accounts or social connections such as FB, twitter, linkedin or Google+

9) Email notification settings

You can easily control what email notifications get sent to your mailbox. Turning options on or off are available to you on the Notification Settings page.

There are four types of notifications we send to you:

“New messages waiting in your mailbox” notification is sent to you when someone sends you a message on Roomster.

“Helpdesk activity updates” notification is sent to you when you reach out to our support helpdesk.

“Daily matches” notification is sent to you when there are new listings available that match your criteria.

“General account updates” notification is sent to you when we need to make you aware of changes to your account.

10) Use Megaphone and tell your matches that you just posted a listing

Roomster gives you access to a tool to get your message out fast. We call it Megaphone. (Its the blinking megaphone on your logged in top navigation)

We understand that you want to contact each member directly after looking at their profile, and you still can. Megaphone allows you to ramp up your search fast and get the job done. Choose the listing types that you want to contact, use the filters to narrow or broaden your Megaphone message (price/budget, age, sex) and write a message about what you’re looking for…and send message!

Megaphone will send out these message to all recipient’s Roomster mailboxes. Once the are received matches know that you exist and can email you back. As new members get added to Roomster they will be added to Megaphone for your consideration to send out another message.

11) Roomster Social Connect = Safety

Everyone has heard that finding a roommate or a place to live on message boards like Craigslist can be bit sketchy. You have no idea who anybody is, important details are left out, there is no on site verification, no links to social networks, in fact there is no verification of any kind!

Roomster has verified members. We encourage our members to add links to their Social Network profiles. People looking for housing should be verifiable.

We ask that you add social networking links to your profile and look for listings with these social links. Roomster profiles that have social connect links are more trustworthy. Members get to see the kind of person you are by the friends you keep, where you work and a history of your online identity.

Roomster is the easiest and safest way to find out who your next roommate is going to be. Get contacted by members through any of the seven available options, including personal phone/email and 5 Social Networks, then contact members using Roomster’s safe and secure on site mail system.
